London Leisure

There are plenty of opportunities for playing or watching sport in London, with some of the countys top football clubs, and plenty of facilities available for visitors.

Football

Football is the national sport, and London is home to some of the biggest clubs in the country. While traditionally football power in England has been firmly entrenched in the North West, Roman Abramovichs billions are doing their best to change the status quo and put Chelsea at the top of the pile. Sadly, prices to see the biggest three teams in London: Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal, can be almost comically high, but there are plenty of other sides such as Fulham, West Ham, QPR and Charlton which you will find both cheaper and with a more traditional and passionate atmosphere.

Royal parks

Londons famous Royal Parks were originally land owned by the monarch for the use of the Royal Family, but today are public parks to be enjoyed by all. There are eight in total and the five in central London; Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, Regents Park, St Jamess Park and Green Park are the most obviously accessible for visitors. Bushy Park, Greenwich Park, and Richmond Park are in suburbs of London, but equally popular. Wonderful spots for picnics in the summer, or sport all year round the Royal Parks provide some quiet escape from a hectic city.

Cricket

As the football season closes, attention turns to cricket, the most popular sport during the summer months. The game has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in the country thanks to some recent successes for the national side. London has two world class cricket stadiums, Lords in St Johns Wood, and The Oval in Kennington, as well as many smaller grounds.
