Be Safe in London

Visitors to London usual enjoy hassle free trips, but in a city of this size there are always likely to be a few safety issues to note, and London is no exception, with a risk of pick-pocketing in the busy tourist areas a potential nuisance.

Safety

London is a huge and busy city and so there a few safety issues to note, but by and large London is a safe city and few tourists experience any problems here. Violent crime is relatively rare, especially in the centre of the city. The most likely hassles for visitors are bag-snatchers and pick-pockets and you should take particular care in any busy areas.

After dark, visitors should exercise caution, even in the busy centre of London there are numerous quiet alleys and narrow streets, and it is best not to walk around alone late a night. The London underground can feel quite intimidating at these times, so it’s a good idea to stick to a carriage with plenty of other passengers.

If you use taxis in London always stick to the registered black cabs, or a licensed mini-cab that you phone to book. Pre-booking a licensed mini-cab is cheaper than a black cab, but black cab drivers consider themselves to be a part of London’s heritage, and can be a useful source of information!

Health

There are few health risks specific to travel in London, the water is safe to drink and there are no extremes of weather. The traffic in central London can be heavily congested and you should take care when crossing roads.
