Getting to Liverpool
Liverpool is easy enough to reach by the standard means of transportation. The most convenient access is by air into John Lennon Airport, located 13kms southeast of the city centre. Liverpool is also connected by Britains train network, with the main railway station conveniently located in the centre of town. Long-distance National Express buses provide frequent service from London and other British towns. If you are driving, Liverpool lies along the path of the M6 and M62 motorways.
By car
Liverpool is easily accessible by road if you are driving from another city. It you are arriving from London, head north on the M1 before transferring to the M6. The motorway to Liverpool is the M62, which leads off of the M1. Drivers from the north should use the M58.
By rail
Express trains depart frequently from Londons Euston Station for the three hour trip to Liverpool. Frequent service is also available from Manchester, which is just 45 minutes away. Liverpools main train station is the Lime Street station, which is located in the northeast section of the city centre. Virgin Trains operate a very fast service from London using the new tilting Pendolino trains. Other rail operators which service Liverpool include Arriva Trains, Central Trains and First Great Western.
By bus
National Express is the main coach company which runs frequent buses from Londons Victoria Coach Station every three hours. The journey from London takes around 4 hours 30 minutes. Buses regularly arrive from Manchester as well, which is a one hour ride away. All long-distance coaches arrive at Liverpools central station, located in the city centre.
By air
Liverpools airport is John Lennon Airport, which is located just 13kms from the city centre. Although a fairly small airport, the terminal services regular daily flights from many cities in the United Kingdom, as well as a handful of destinations in mainland Europe.

John Lennon Airport offers one of the easiest ways to get to Liverpool. The terminal handles some 31 million passengers each year and is considered one of northern Englands busiest airports. There are five airlines which fly to over 30 different destinations worldwide, but most of the traffic comes and goes from cities in the United Kingdom.
The airports adequate terminal has all the usual facilities which a traveller might need. There are four Travelex outlets in the terminal, located opposite the check-in desks, in baggage claim and in the Arrivals area. Restaurants, news-stands, gift shops and duty-free shopping are also on site. An information desk can be found in the main concourse where staff are ready to help with bookings and information on the citys attractions.
John Lennon Airport transportation
There is frequent and reliable public transportation from the airport to a number of destinations around Liverpool by way of train, coach, bus, taxi and car hire. Regular express buses run to the city centre and there is also a drop-off and collection service at Garston railway station. The AirportXpress500 departs from outside the Arrivals area every 30 minutes from 05:15 until 00:15 each day. The journey takes just 20 minutes to reach the city centre.
Although there is no railway station located directly at the terminal, Garston and Hunts Cross stations are nearby and serve the local and regional rail network. Public buses also have direct links with the airport running to Lime Street station throughout the day.
