Liverpool Restaurants
One thing that often surprises visitors to this world-class city is its distinct lack of world-class restaurants. In the past, drinking always took precedence over eating, with curry houses and takeaways constituting the bulk of dining choices. However, things have dramatically changed over the past few years and Liverpool now boasts of a number of decent restaurants and trendy cafs to suit nearly every taste and budget.
Local cuisine
The cuisine in Liverpool is essentially the same as every other mid-sized city in England. Its location along the coast means that the seafood selection is usually better than in other parts of the country. The citys ethnic diversity has also led to an impressive range of food styles from around the globe. With the oldest Chinese community in Europe, Liverpool boasts a plethora of Chinese restaurants, most of which are excellent.
Where to eat
The wonderfully restored Albert Dock is one of the best spots in town for eating out. There are numerous choices for dining along the quay, from trendy cafs to fresh seafood restaurants. If you want to combine drinking with your eating, the pubs along the dock are another excellent option for getting a light meal. When the weather is warm and the days linger well into the night, theres no better spot in Liverpool to sit outside, where you can admire the views of the docklands.
The Lark Lane area is home to some fine French dining, a couple of South American cafs, as well as two Greek restaurants worth checking out. The city centre, however, offers the greatest concentration of places to eat. Berry Street leads down to Chinatown, where you can find dozens of great Asian joints.
