Travel to Jersey
It may come as a surprise, but one of the most ancient sites in the UK is Jersey, in the Channel Islands. But thats not the only surprise awaiting visitors. Jersey is a fascinating blend of stunning natural beauty, medieval castles and quaint coastal towns. As the UKs southernmost territory, this island also boasts warmer and drier weather than the rest of the United Kingdom.
Transportation to Jersey
Jersey Airport handles all of the domestic and international flights into the island. Located just a few minutes away from downtown St Helier, the airport is connected to the city by taxi and public bus. Jersey also has regular ferry connections to the UK and France, which includes car ferries, so visitors can feasibly drive here.
What to see
Jerseys array of natural wonders will catch most peoples attention right away. The island has done a fantastic job of protecting and maintaining its dramatic coastal scenery. But what makes Jersey so special is the equally magnificent human influence on the island. Elizabeth Castle, the Hermitage and Mont Orgueil Castle are all beautiful buildings. The worlds largest collection of orchids is also here, as well as a fragrant lavender farm. Add to that the quaint coastal towns and villages that dot the island, and youve got a well-rounded itinerary of fun things to see and do.
Daytrips
The entire island is essentially a day trip waiting to happen, and having a car will ensure that you can see it all at your own leisurely pace. No matter where you stay, youll want to explore the 30 beaches, dramatic sea bluffs called points, and other natural wonders that lie in the interior.
Activities and leisure
Jersey is dominated by the sea, and many of the activities on the island involve water sports. There are more than 30 beaches to explore, and each one has its own unique character. Jersey also has one of the most extensive and best-developed walking and cycling path networks in the UK. Walkers can actually circumnavigate the island by using the path system, or choose shorter destinations. Cycling is also a real pleasure since Jersey has created its 45-mile Green Lanes network of small country roads which have a very low speed limit, making them ideal for cycling. Golf is also a big hit on the island, with two world championship courses, and a handful of other scenic places to play.
Safety issues
Jersey has a reputation as a safe and orderly island. There really isnt much to worry about in terms of health or safety. During the peak summer season, as the number of tourists increase, petty crime sees a slight upturn. As such, it is suggested that you buy some travel insurance before your trip to ensure that any mishaps dont ruin your holiday.
