Jersey Restaurants

With a confluence of English and French culture making up the bulk of Jerseys history, this island has one of the best dining scenes in the UK. There are over 200 restaurants to choose from on this small island, serving the cuisine of many different ethnicities including Americas gift to the world, McDonalds. With an abundance of fresh seafood, meat, dairy and produce Jersey doesnt need to import much to sustain its thriving restaurant scene. As in most places in the UK, waiters expect to be tipped and the standard 15 to 20 percent gratuity.

Where to eat

The standards for eating out on Jersey are very high, so you wont be disappointed with any place you visit. The greatest concentration of restaurants is in St Helier, where you can find cafes, bistros, seafood shacks and fine dining restaurants. Jerseys only Michelin star restaurant, Bohemia, is in the capital and well-known for its excellent food at reasonable prices. For the freshest seafood, you can head 10 minutes south of the capital to Green Island Restaurant. Many of the pubs and inns around the island also serve up incredible food, so you wont have to look hard to find a memorable meal. Restaurants are typically open from 09:00 until 23:00.

Local cuisine

Jerseys cuisine is an interesting blend of classic English fare and traditional French cooking. Mixed in with this is a nice array of ethnic restaurants ensuring a good selection of dining options for visitors. Naturally, seafood is very popular here, with scallops, oysters, lobster and spider crabs being specialties. Jersey cows are also renowned for their rich creamy milk and beef. The islands climate is perfect for growing produce, helping the restaurants keep their menus healthy and fresh. Youll find the famous Jersey New Potatoes in most places. Other Jersey specialties include Bean Crock (dried beans with onion, herbs and pigs trotters); fiottes (balls of flour, sugar and eggs cooked in milk); la soupe danguilles (conger eel soup); and cream tea served with strawberries.
