Getting to Halifax

If you travel a short distance out of town, you will discover some worthwhile sights. Only a five-minute drive away, in Boothtown you can find the Halifax artificial ski slope, where you can practice the winter sport indoors. Driving through the idyllic countryside or exploring the cathedral and art galleries in the nearby pretty town of Bradford can also be very rewarding.

The town of Halifax is serviced by an outstanding transport infrastructure, and Leeds Bradford International Airport is only a short drive away. For those who want to travel to Halifax by road, the city is positioned just north of Junction 24 on the M62 motorway, and by rail, you can reach the town from a number of nearby centers in Yorkshire as well as by hourly rail services from London's Kings Cross Station, changing in Leeds, with a travel time of approximately 3 hours.

By car

Halifax can be reached by motorists exiting the M62 motorway at Junction 24 and then driving along the A629, which leads to the town. Those arriving by air at the nearby located Leeds Airport have the option to hire a private car on-site.

By rail

Halifaxs train station lies on the Calderdale line, about 17 miles (27kms) west from the city of Leeds. Monday to Saturdays, there is a train service available which leaves every 15 minutes and follows a route to Bradford Interchange, while there is also a service to Leeds, with two-hourly trains travelling beyond Leeds to the stations of York and Selby respectively. Evenings and Sundays, there are half-hourly services to Leeds as well as hourly services to York.

Every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday trains run to Manchester Victoria Station (every hour in the evening), while there is one hourly service to Blackpool North and one hourly service to Wakefield Westgate via Huddersfield and Brighouse. On Sundays, there is a service every hour to Manchester Victoria Station and one service each hour runs either to Blackpool North or Huddersfield.

By bus

First operates the majority of bus services, while Arriva run buses that connect Halifax with Leeds, Wakefield and Dewsbury. Halifax is excellently linked to the nearby towns of Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds.

Other bus companies which serve the town include TJ Walsh and Halifax Joint Committee. Unlike numerous other bus terminals, Halifax is reputed to have more character, with plenty of listed constructions being incorporated on the site. However, the result is that amenities are slightly lacking compared to West Yorkshire's more modern bus terminals.

By air

Leeds Bradford International Airport is situated within easy driving distance of Halifax. Public transportation to and from the airport is efficient, reliable and regular, with a choice of coaches, trains, buses, taxis and car rental outfits.

Leeds Bradford Airport handles an estimated two million passengers annually. The airport provides a wide range of amenities featuring those for business, children and physically disabled persons. Additionally, a comprehensive range of first class airport services are provided.

Motorists will find the airport easily accessible and well signposted from the access roads. The facility provides a range of valet, short-term and long-term parking.

Taxis
