Glasgow Weather

If youre looking for a sun-drenched vacation destination then the climate in Glasgow may end up disappointing you. It certainly rains a lot in Scotland, though not as much as the old myths suggest. Glasgow experiences four distinct seasons, each with their own unique qualities. Location also plays a major role in the weather youll encounter during a visit to Scotland. The northern Highlands are invariably colder and wetter than the Lowlands, where the year-round temperature is fairly moderate. Springtime temperatures average 12C, but only rise to around 18C in the summer, so be prepared for cool, damp weather whatever time of year you visit.

Embrace the rain

The best weather in Glasgow can typically be found between May and October, when the conditions are often sunny, dry and warm. Rain can fall anytime during the year, although its heaviest during the winter months. But the grey, heavy skies are a major part of what gives Glasgow its atmosphere, so its best to simply accept the fact and come prepared for a bit of precipitation and a lot of ambience. Springtime presents the city and surrounding countryside at its greenest, while autumn sees those classic steely grey skies return. To experience Glasgow at its least touristy, consider a visit during the winter when itll be just you and the locals. The summer months of July and August, while certainly warm and sunny, are the most crowded time of year as most Britons and Europeans take their vacations.
