Exeter Restaurants

Exeter is home to a great many dining establishments and visitors will easily see why the region has such an outstanding reputation for delicious local cuisine. There is a wealth of restaurants in the downtown area, all within easy walking distance from the town centre. Visitors will also find that nearby Topsham has much to add to the area's dining experience as well.

Local cuisine

The county of Devon is well-known for its culinary traditions, and a significant portion of the county's income is recycled back into the local economy as its inhabitants buy local food and produce. Freshly-caught seafood is brought into port each day and meat from locally raised livestock is readily available at markets and restaurants.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are grown on farms across the region, and nearby Somerset is famous for its cider. The dairy industry supplies local kitchens with fresh milk, butter, cream and a broad selection of specialty, full-flavored cheeses. Hampers bursting with delicious jams are a special treat as well.

Where to eat

Due to the region's culinary prowess, there is an outstanding selection of restaurants offering some of Devon's finest food. Among the many reputable restaurants, one is operated by Michael Caines, a prominent chef in the UK. The Quayside is a lovely place to take a meal in a historic setting, and those longing for international fare will find a fair share of restaurants selling French and Italian fare along with some Asian cuisine.
