Edinburgh Transport
Getting around Edinburgh is quite convenient, and visitors will find that the city's transportation services are well-equipped and easy to use. The bus network is very thorough and is good value for money. Taxis, on the other hand, are much more convenient and comfortable. Those engaging primarily in touring the sights may wish to take advantage of the tourist services, which are geared toward visitors who plan on doing a lot of compressed sightseeing in a short amount of time.
By train
The train stations in Edinburgh are not set up to facilitate cross-city connections and are available for service to destinations outside of the city.
By bus
Lothian and First are the two public bus companies that oversee transportation around the city of Edinburgh. While many of their routes overlap, they operate independently and their tickets aren't interchangeable. Routes provide access to every part of the city, with regular and frequent stops.
Taxis
Those requiring a taxi will find that they're easily hailed from most parts of the city. Transportation by taxi is fast and reliable, and is by far the most convenient means of getting around. A taxi to the airport can make the journey in 20 to 30 minutes. To charter a taxi call: +44 131 333 2255
Tourist services
Travel companies in the city operate sightseeing buses that follow several different routes throughout the more scenic or historically important parts of the city. These buses can be boarded at Waverly Bridge on Princes Street, next to the train station. After purchasing a ticket, you may use it as many times as you like during the next 24 hours.
From the airport
Buses and taxis are the primary means of transport from the airport to the city centre, and driving from the airport to the city takes anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. Car hire companies have desks at the airport, although it's much more convenient to secure your rental in advance by booking online.
