Edinburgh boasts a great selection of cuisine served in dining establishments in both the New Town and Old Town districts. The growing tourism industry has led to more restaurants and greater variety, so that visitors can now enjoy a meal in various settings.

Local cuisine

Traditional Scottish cuisine includes haggis, which is a stuffed sheep's stomach. Scottish game also makes for a delicious local meal. In many respects, Scottish whisky is the region's most famous culinary export. Whisky tours of local distilleries are offered by several organisations. Groups depart from the city and visit several distilleries in the surrounding area, sampling the product at each stop. Local restaurants offer visitors a wide selection of Scottish spirits to complement the dining experience.

Where to eat

The city of Edinburgh is home to some great upmarket dining establishments. The Restaurant Martin Wishart, which is located in Leith, is a small place that serves excellent food to relatively few patrons given the small seating capacity. The Bow Bar, located on West Bow, is a classy place with an air of old-world charm, which also offers a very respectable beer list.
