Dundee Entertainment
Dundee has a thriving night scene with something to appeal to visitors and residents of all ages and backgrounds. A trip to the theatre, a good meal at a fine restaurant, a quiet drink in a cosy pub or a wild night of dancing; whatever takes your fancy, Dundee has it.
Eating out
Dundee has a good selection of restaurants that provide for both lunch and dinner eating periods, so you can have a business lunch with colleagues or a social dinner with friends. The selection of eateries on offer is varied, with traditional British cuisine on offer as well as the cuisines of many other countries. Indian restaurants are particularly well-represented with an impressive number of Tandoori-style establishments available. Being close to the sea, Dundee also offers several restaurants offering good seafood, while takeaways across the length of the city serve the ever popular fish and chips.
Local cuisine
Dundees local cuisine is perhaps a little difficult to define, with its only really significant influence being its location close to the sea. This proximity obviously means that freshly caught seafood makes its way onto a good number of restaurant menus as well as ensuring the continued popularity of its fish and chip shops. The Scotch pie is also prevalent in Dundee, and is commonly called a mince pie; its ingredients are identical to the popular pie that is available throughout Scotland.
Theatre and music
For traditional theatre and other live stage performances, the Dundee Rep Theatre is the best place to head for, hosting a variety of spectacles throughout the year. Meanwhile, at the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, you can check out exhibitions or art-house movies. The live music scene is a popular one, leaning towards the tastes and demands of the younger generation, with venues such as the Westport Bar and the Doghouse Bar regularly hosting gigs.
Shopping
Dundee is home to all of the popular high street stores as well as a variety of independent retailers, and visitors with a penchant for shopping will find no difficulty in parting with the cash thats burning a hole in their pocket. The Overgate Centre is a large shopping facility thats home to popular outlets such as Argos, Debenhams, GAP, Next, WH Smith and River Island. Costa Coffee and Starbucks are also on hand for when you need to take the weight off your feet and relax with a hot drink.
The other main indoor shopping facility in the city is the Wellgate Centre, which is home to stores such as BHS, Virgin, Woolworths, Claire's Accessories, Jessops and Superdrug. Dundees newest shopping development, the City Quay is home to toy shops, clothing stores, a book shop and Traesko furniture shop.
