Cardiff Leisure

The Welsh are a sporting lot and are especially into Rugby and cricket. Although both of these may appeal little to visitors, spectator facilities are excellent and the games are guaranteed to be exciting. There are also good options for those who would like to participate in sports, with some highly-rated golf courses and facilities for racquet sports, as well as plenty of opportunity for walking and cycling and even skiing.

Rugby

Cardiff Rugby Football Club is over 100 years old and is today represented by the impressive Millennium Stadium, which was built in time for the Rugby World Cup in 1999. Important football (soccer) matches are also held here, including several bouts of the FA Cup final while the new Wembley Stadium was being constructed.

Golf

Cardiff is also a popular centre for golf enthusiasts. The unique landscape of the city, both inside and out, has produced some magnificent courses where non-members can pay a fee for a round. It is advisable to book as far ahead as possible if you fancy golfing in Cardiff and take along a camera, as the views are often outstanding.

Swimmers can enjoy Cardiff's Maindy Pool, which is located in the heart of the city in Bute Park. There are some great sports facilities here, including a sports field, an outdoor cycle track and a café area.

River Taff

The River Taff that runs through Cardiff presents many opportunities for walking and cycling as well as taking in wonderful views and fresh air. Cyclists should definitely consider trying out the Taff Cycle Trail, which offers about 50 miles of trails running from Cardiff Bay to the hilly town of Brecon, and includes trails along the banks of the Taff.

Dry Skiing

In addition, the Cardiff Ski Centre in Fairwater Park offers dry-skiing and snowboarding and has excellent facilities. Complete novices can hire the services of a ski instructor and ski equipment is also available for hire.
