Be Safe in Cambridge
Travelling to and around Cambridge is generally safe, even though visitors should make sure to look after their personal belongings in areas frequented by tourists, where pick-pocketing is often reported.
Safety
As clearly demonstrated by the fatal terrorist bomb attacks in central London on 7 July 2005, terrorism is a clear and present danger. The attacks claimed over 50 lives and injured around 700. After the counter terrorist operation in the UK on 10 August 2006, all UK airports launched heightened security measures and limitations on hand luggage. A number of people thought to be connected with a terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight on route from the United Kingdom to the USA were arrested.

Health
There are no particular health concerns linked with travel to the UK and it is safe to enjoy both food and water. The British National Health Service is first class; visitors can receive emergency treatment free of charge, but charges are levied for normal medical care. A number of countries are party to reciprocal health agreements with the UK including New Zealand, Australia and EU countries. We strongly advise travellers from other countries (including South Africa, Canada and the US) to take out adequate medical insurance.
