Getting to Cambridge

Visitors to Cambridge have a wide range of options for travelling to the city. Cambridge City Airport provides convenient connections to several domestic destinations. The city is linked by the UKs extensive railway network and good road conditions make for easy access for coaches and private vehicles.

By car

Cambridge is just a short ride up the M11 motorway coming from south England and London. Linking the north of England to Cambridge city centre, the A1 and M1 motorways connect to the A14 dual carriageway. From the east, the A14 dual carriageway leads straight into central Cambridge.

By rail

Cambridge is served by the extensive National Rail network, providing connections to destinations all over the UK. The trip to London takes 50 minutes, while from Nottingham the journey can be made in 2 hours 20 minutes. From Birmingham it takes 2 hours 50 minutes. Cambridge Station is located on Station Road. By bus

By air

Cambridge City Airport is a popular regional airport located just three miles from central Cambridge and Cambridge University. With a strong focus on business, it provides convenient air services to north England, east England, East Anglia and London. The nearest international airport to Cambridge is London Stansted, located 25 miles south of Cambridge. This airport provides frequent connections to a wide variety of domestic and continental European destinations. It serves several major European air hubs, linking it to international and overseas cities.

Cambridge airports

Cambridge City Airport (CBG) provides regular connections to Jersey in the Channel Islands every Saturday from May to September. Facilities at the airport include an executive lounge, meeting rooms, telephones and fax machines, computers with Internet access, secretarial support, ATMs, a newsagent and a car park.

Stansted is Londons newest and most modern international airport, located only 25 miles from Cambridge. The airport operates one terminal, with arrivals and departures located on the same level. Facilities include a chapel, ATMs, moneychangers, baby-changing rooms, left luggage, lost and found as well as excellent facilities for children.

Cambridge airport transportation

Cambridge City Airport is just minutes away from central Cambridge by car. A regular airport bus service connects to the train station in the city centre.

The railway station at Stansted Airport is located below the terminal building. The journey to Cambridge takes around 30 minutes. Train tickets can be purchased at the railway station. Direct coach services to Cambridge depart from the coach station below between Zone C and D of the Short Stay car park. Tickets can be bought from the coach ticket desk in the arrivals area in the terminal or at the coach station. Tickets may also be purchased on the coach. The trip takes around 50 minutes.
