Cambridge Transport

Car access to Cambridge city centre is quite restricted as the heart of the city is fairly small and compact. Hardly any destination is more than a 20-minute walk away, so the best means of getting around is by using your legs, either walking or cycling. There are also buses around the city centre and to the suburbs.

By bus

Stagecoach operates local buses in and around Cambridge. All bus services stop in or near the bus station in Drummer Street, where there are accessible toilets, passenger information and telephones. Park and Ride city buses depart from Emmanuel Street. A free shuttle bus takes travellers around the city centre, Monday to Saturday 9:00 to 18:00. Taxis

Taxis in Cambridge are one of the most convenient means to travel around the city and are generally reasonably priced. The main taxi rank is outside of the Cambridge Train Station. In quieter areas of Cambridge, taxis can be booked by telephone and there are several reputable taxi firms including: A1 Cabco Taxis (tel: +44 1223 711111), Andy Cabs (tel: +44 1223 571144) and Burwell Taxis (tel: +44 1638 741168).

Tourist services

Open-top double-decker guided bus tours run at regular intervals throughout the day in central Cambridge. With daily hop on and off tickets, they provide a very useful way to travel around the city, taking in numerous tourist attractions, landmarks and monuments. A guide gives a commentary in English, while recorded commentaries are available in German, Italian, Spanish, French, Japanese and Dutch plus a special recording in English for children. From the airport

Cambridge City Airport is just minutes away from central Cambridge by car. A regular airport bus service connects to the train station in the city centre.

The railway station at Stansted Airport is located below the terminal building. The journey to Cambridge takes around 30 minutes. Train tickets can be purchased at the railway station. Direct coach services to Cambridge depart from the coach station below between Zone C and D of the Short Stay car park. Tickets can be bought from the coach ticket desk in the arrivals area in the terminal or at the coach station. Tickets may also be purchased on the coach. The trip takes around 50 minutes.
