Cambridge Restaurants

It can be a difficult choice to decide where to eat out in Cambridge. Even though it may be a small town, cosmopolitan student groups and a growing pool of technology and Internet professionals make it a diverse market for eating and dining venues. The town is home to a world-class selection of restaurants, many with great views of the city centre and the River Cam.

Local cuisine

Cambridge is in the British Midlands, home to one of the most British of all meat dishes, Melton Mowbray pork pies. Other traditional pork products include sausages, pork scratchings and traditional dishes based on offal, such as faggots. The Midlands are also a major dairy producing and cheese-making region. Stilton, Derby cheese, Shropshire blue and Leicester are some of the more well-known delicacies. Cambridge is home to an over-abundance of gooseberries and the Cambridge gage, a type of plum. Other local treats include Pear and Stilton tart, pork terrine with leeks and asparagus, leeks with three mustard and cheese sauce, and blackcurrant mousse.

Where to eat

Restaurants in Cambridge are spread throughout the city centre, but are particularly concentrated in Market Hill, King Street, Kings Parade, Free School Lane, Midsummer Common, Trinity Street, St. Johns Street, Magdalene Street, Prospect Row, Park Street and Orchard Street. Additionally, there are several cafs in the centre of Cambridge providing seating areas on the wide footpaths outside. First-rate Italian restaurants are abundant, as a result of Cambridges large Italian population.
