Bristol Restaurants

Bristol has some of the best restaurants in the southwest of England, with specialities available from all over the world. You will find everything from trendy snack bars, cafés and coffee shops to high-quality restaurants and independent gourmet establishments.

Local cuisine

Bristol is home to The Soil Association, an environmental charity which promotes organic farming and health. As a result, the annual Organic Food Festival is held in Bristol every September and is the largest of its kind in Europe.  Due to this you can find several cafés and restaurants where organic-only foods are prepared. There are traditional English restaurants in Bristol, where you can have a full English breakfast consisting of sausages, eggs, bacon, beans and black pudding; a hearty ploughman’s lunch (salad with bread and cheese); and anything from fish and chips to steak and kidney pie for dinner. There are also numerous international cuisines available all over the city including Thai, Chinese, Italian and Mexican as well as a number of highly popular seafood establishments at the harbourside.

Where to eat

There are literally scores of restaurants in Bristol, grouped mainly in three specific areas. The city centre has the bulk of Bristol’s eateries, with everything from coffee shops, fast-food and world-class restaurants, while the Clifton area of the city is where most of the specialist, upmarket restaurants and cosy pubs can be found. The other main eating area of Bristol is at the harbourside, where many popular restaurants and bars are situated.   This area is also great for people-watching at night.
