Be Safe in Brighton

It is generally safe to travel around Brighton, although visitors are advised to take special care of their personal possessions in busy tourist areas, where pick-pocketing is frequently reported.

Safety

There is a threat of international terrorism, as shown by the deadly terrorist bomb attacks in central London on 7 July 2005, which cost over 50 people their lives and injured about 700. Following the counter terrorist operation in the UK on 10 August 2006, all UK airports introduced tightened security measures and restrictions on hand luggage. A number of individuals were arrested in connection with a terrorist plan to blow up aeroplanes in mid-flight on their way from the United Kingdom to the USA.

Health

There are no particular health risks connected with travel to the UK and food and water are both safe to enjoy. The British National Health Service is first-rate; emergency treatment is free of charge to visitors, but fees are charged for regular medical care. Several countries have signed reciprocal health agreements with the UK including Australia, New Zealand and EU countries. Visitors from other countries (including Canada, South Africa and the US) are strongly advised to take out sufficient medical insurance.
