Getting to Brighton

Most international visitors to Brighton make use of the nearby London Gatwick Airport, only 30 minutes away by train. There is also a small local airport near Brighton, Shoreham Airport, offering regular flights to domestic and French destinations. Regular high-speed trains link the city with London, while comfortable coaches are also available. Ferries also arrive in nearby Newhaven to the east. For those travelling by car, the road network is well developed.

By car

From London, Brighton can be reached via the M25 London motorway and then taking the M23/A23 to Brighton and Hove. The A27, a coastal route, links the city to Southampton in the west and Eastbourne in the east.

By rail

Brighton is served by the extensive National Rail network, providing connections to destinations all over the UK. The trip to Southampton takes 1 hour 40 minutes, while from London the journey can be made in around 1 hour. From Dover it takes 2 hours 30 minutes. Brighton Station is located on Queens Road. By bus

National Express operates an extensive coach network around the UK, and connects Brighton to all destinations. The bus and coach station is located in Pool Valley, near the city centre. By air

Most visitors who arrive by air make use of London Gatwick Airport, located 28 miles north of Brighton and linked to Brighton by a direct rail connection. The airport provides regular connections to many UK, European and international destinations. Shoreham Airport, just 20 minutes to the west of Brighton by car, is a small regional airport serving domestic and French destinations, including the Channel Islands. Brighton airports

London Gatwick Airport operates two terminals, from which all arrivals and departures are dealt with. Both the North and the South Terminals have four levels. Facilities at the airport include a myriad of shops, restaurants, bars and cafs as well as currency exchange services in both terminals and information desks in the arrivals areas, where multi-lingual staff are on hand to deal with enquiries, usually 24 hours a day.

Shoreham Airport operates a single terminal with two levels. A viewing gallery is located on the terrace overlooking the apron area, in front of the restaurant. An ATM machine and public telephones are located in the terminal building foyer, accepting coins only. They can be used for both national and international calls.

Brighton airport transportation

Regular train services to Brighton run every 15 minutes through Sussex. The rail station is directly connected to Gatwicks South Terminal and is just a few minutes from North Terminal via a free transit train link. Rail information and ticket desks can be found in the railway station and within the arrival areas of both terminals. There are also direct coach services from the airport to Brighton. National Express and Oxford Bus Company coaches leave from the upper terminal forecourt (South Terminal). Most services also stop at the North Terminal (on the lower level outside International Arrivals).

From Shoreham Airport, trains run to Brighton via Worthing. Its possible to walk to the train station from the airport. Alternatively, take a number 700 bus that stops at The Royal Coach Public House on the south side of the airport. From here its just a 10-minute walk through New Salts Farm Road to the Terminal Building. Taxis are also on hand.
