Long known as one of the top places for dining on the south coast, the city now boasts a wide variety of cuisine and offers a massive selection of different restaurants. Local cuisine

The cuisine in this region, if that is the right word, is unwaveringly British with fish and chips topping the menu and pub grub featuring a close second. Ripe tart is a traditional dessert made of cherries and almonds. Its a moist, fruity cake and can be served hot or cold.

Among the most popular dining choices in Brighton are afternoon tea at Brightons Grand Hotel, traditional fish and chips on Brighton Pier and several of the fine restaurants in central Brighton. Good places to look for some of the best eateries in town are Market Street, George Street, Gardener Street, Union Street, East Street, Prince Albert Street, Middle Street, Circus Parade and the Brighton Marina. There are also restaurants and cafs to suit every taste at The Lanes, Preston Street and North Laine (known as Brightons Bohemian neighbourhood). Elegant seaside dining can be found at the nearby Brighton Marina, which has a number of small and cosy Italian eateries.
