Things to do in Aberystwyth

The pretty, coastal university town of Aberystwyth boasts plenty of historical and natural attractions. Aberystwyth Castle

Despite its ruinous state, this castles stunning position on the coast has subjected it to the mercy of the Atlantics harsh winds and waves, creating a bleak ambience that takes you back to the times of the Middle Ages. The castle is located beside a big war memorial monument on a promontory on the New Promenade. Note that the grounds contain several high walls and drops.

Cliff Railway

The longest electric railway in the United Kingdom is Aberystwyth's Cliff Railway. Following a route up Constitution Hill, numerous visitors enjoy this trip throughout the year. At the hills summit, there are excellent view points along the shore. Also available is a spacious caf, camera obscura and a shop. There are buggy-friendly paths leading from the top station to the caf. You can also reach the hill by walking along a winding pathway that commences from adjacent to the lower station of the Cliff Railway. Llanbadarn Fawr's Church

Literary buffs should definitely visit Llanbadarn Fawr's Church as it houses the National Library of Wales. Wales biggest library contains not only books, but paintings, maps, photographs and video and sound recordings. Exhibitions with free admission can be visited in the gallery, while hungry visitors will appreciate the on-site restaurant.

Arts Centre

The Arts Centre can be found at the towns university. The facility boasts a theatre, movie theatre, gallery, outlet and a caf. It is a popular meeting point for students, families and friends.

Ceredigion Museum

This highly attractive museum can be found near to the Tourist Information Centre at the junction of Terrace Road and Bath Street. The facility is housed in an historic Edwardian music hall and the seating galleries are used for display levels. Local history is the main theme here and there are plenty of exhibits that will excite the younger visitors. In the exhibition areas, there is the availability of free activity sheets for children of all ages. Additionally, the museum features an outstanding, well-stocked gift and souvenir shop. Constitution Hill

Constitution Hill at the promenades north end is accessible by both the electric Cliff Railway and the winding, steep path. Whatever way you choose to travel to the top, you'll be rewarded by breathtaking views of the coast and town. There is a camera obscura available on the hill, providing jaw-dropping panoramas of the town. There is no admission fee, but during the winter it is closed. From the hill, you can walk the five miles (eight kilometres) of coastal path leading to Borth, which is a quaint seaside village. From the village, you can take a bus or train back to Aberystwyth.

Leisure Centre

The towns swimming pool is also a leisure centre. The centre can be found along Llanbadarn Road. Children have the option to participate in several outstanding holiday activities. If you would like to come here on foot, the prettiest way is to go via Plascrug Park. Here youll find two pools; a big one for advanced swimmers and a smaller pool for the youngsters. The Promenade

The long Promenade commences from the towns southern residential are and runs alongside the peaceful south beach, on the other side to the marina, before bearing right past the castle and the crazy golf attraction. The gorgeous Edwardian/Victorian buildings lined along the front now mainly function as hotels or as accommodation for students.
