Aberdeen Leisure

Aberdeen is a great destination for outdoors fans. To the east of the city are the North Sea and a coastline of sandy beaches, while to the west stretches Royal Deeside, the beautiful valley of the River Dee.

Beaches

The beaches are wonderful in the summer and offer water sport fans the chance to test their courage in the North Sea, or, if you prefer dry land, you can simply walk, cycle, run or roller-skate along the promenade.

Golf

Aberdeen is home to a good range of golf courses located in and around the city, with a number of other noteworthy courses within an easy drive. As usual, reservations are necessary at any course. One of the finest courses is Balgownie, the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, established in 1780. It essentially runs out and back along the North Sea shore and the front 9 is thought to be among the best stretches of links golf in the world. Located around 7 miles west of Aberdeen, is the par-69 West Hills Golf Course, at West Hill Heights, West Hill Skene.

Cycling

Just 10 minutes from the outskirts of Aberdeen, Kirkhill is a paradise for cyclists. The red multi-user trail follows forest roads all the way and is an easy path offering fantastic views. The Blackhall loop and the Shooting Greens drive lead through forest trails, giving cyclists superb views of the Dee Valley to the north and the Feugh to the south. Durris offers terrific views from its vantage point on top of a hill, overlooking Deeside and offers a gentle route without too many hills. The white trail tags along forest roads providing extensive views north to the Dee Valley.
