Be Safe in Bodrum
Like most tourist destinations, visitors to Bodrum are often the target of petty theft. If you sufficiently guard your belongings and do not display expensive items openly, you are likely to enjoy a theft-free visit.
Safety
Drivers in Bodrum can be aggressive and impulsive, a problem that is only compounded by the citys maze-like network of streets. If youre new to driving in the area, expect to hear a lot of horns, even if you think you are obeying all the traffic laws. Be particularly cautious when crossing streets, as traffic accidents in Turkey often involve pedestrians.
Many parts of Turkey lie on a major seismic fault line and are subject to earthquakes and tremors; several fairly recent earthquakes have shaken eastern Turkey, in the southwest and the southeast.
Health
While most of Bodrum is clean and hygienic, public toilets and taps can sometimes fall below standard. Avoid drinking tap water, and while it is safe to use for washing, it may be a good idea to buy some antibacterial soap. Buy bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth, and make sure the label says purified. If you must use a public toilet, try to use one inside a mosque, as these are usually very satisfactory.
Travel insurance
However many precautions you take to prevent accident, theft or loss during your stay in Bodrum, these unwanted intrusions into holidays are sometimes unavoidable, making travelling with a comprehensive travel insurance policy an essential requirement for any trip. Medical facilities and the standard of healthcare are not high in state hospitals, and private health insurance is recommended.
