Ankara Weather
Turkey is so vast and has so many different landscapes, that the climate from one city to another can differ quite dramatically. The Anatolian plateau, which is where Ankara is located, experiences very hot summers, terribly cold winters and moderate springs and autumns.
Throughout springtime, March to May, and autumn, September and October, the city seems to relax with the mild weather. The temperatures are very pleasant with averages of 20C. Ankara experiences light showers during this time which allows travellers to make plans without the worry of getting drenched in sudden downpours that usually occur throughout winter. If you do not enjoy extremely hot or cold weather these would be the best moths to visit the city.
Throughout December, January and February, temperatures can drop below -5C and even lower in the mountainous areas surrounding the city. However, if you enjoy the cold, this would be a great time to visit Ankara and enjoy the winter sports available at Mount Elmadag. December is the wettest month of the year, so if you are visiting, be sure to remember your waterproofs.
Summers in Ankara are extremely hot. Between June and September, the weather is usually very hot and dry with little breeze. If you enjoy the sun then this is the perfect time to visit Ankara. Be warned however that this is also the peak tourist season and prices of hotels will be marked up. Tourists are advised to make their bookings early to avoid disappointment.
