Travel to Zurich

Switzerlands largest city is among the most beautiful in Europe. Its location on the shores of Lake Zurich and the charming Old Town, full of lovely restored buildings and narrow streets, make this one of the most popular destinations in the world.

Transportation to Zurich

Kloten International Airport handles all of the domestic and international flights into the area. Located about 15 minutes by car from Zurich, the airport is well-connected to the city by train and shuttle bus. Zurich also has regular train and bus connections to all major Swiss towns as well as to destinations farther away. Driving to Zurich is aeasy since it lies at the crossroads of several major European motorways. Once youre here, the compact city centre is easily navigated on foot.

What to see

Besides being one of the worlds leading financial centres, Zurich is also a prominent cultural and artistic city. Extraordinary museums and galleries complement the amazing range of high-class shopping along the Bahnhofstrasse and the renovated industrial neighbourhood of Zurich West.

Much of Zurichs attraction lies in the city itself. Wandering around the ancient streets of the Old Town, stopping at a quaint cafe for an afternoon pastry and watching the distinctly Swiss blend of orderly living is what makes Zurich so special. With the sublime backdrop of the snow-clad Alps looming over the roofline, youll feel well-rewarded for all the money you spend on your visit.

Daytrips

Within minutes of the city are some truly wonderful alpine sites worth exploring. The impeccable Swiss train network ensures that you can reach all of these lofty destinations with ease, and if you want a little more freedom, a rental car will prove a worthwhile investment.

Activities and leisure

Zurich is a town dominated by the mountains, and as such, most of the activities around here involve alpine pursuits. There isnt much in the way of spectator sports, but if you enjoy a good ramble in the countryside, youll be spoiled for choice. Winter visitors can get up on the slopes for a taste of classic Alps skiing.

Safety issues

Like most Swiss cities, Zurich has long had a reputation as a safe and orderly town. However, during the busy summer months, the number of tourists increases, offering an opportunity for the citys petty thieves to ply their trade. It is strongly suggested that you buy some travel insurance before your trip to ensure that any mishaps dont ruin your holiday.
