Travel to Zaragoza
Zaragoza is located in the north of Spain. The city offers diverse landscapes and architecture with several quaint villages with old traditions still remaining. It is the capital city of the Autonomous Region of Aragon, and the Ebro Valleys most important city.
Transportation to Zaragoza
Zaragoza Airport is positioned just 10kms to the west of the city centre and flights from main cities across Spain and Europe arrive here. These include: Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London, Barcelona and Madrid. Reputed airlines, including Ryanair and Iberia Air, service the airport and provide flights on a regular basis. The city is served by a high-speed train service which arrives frequently from Madrid. Both standard and high-speed trains also arrive from localities in the region and from other parts of Spain.
Efficient motorways provide easy access to Zaragoza. The E-90 (A2) goes direct from Madrid (southwest), to Zaragoza; a three to four-hour drive. Barcelona, to the east, is also about a similar distance away from Zaragoza and is directly connected by the same motorway, the A2. For travellers coming from Britain by ferry, the A68 provides access from the general direction of Santander and Bilbao on Spains north coast. By car Bilbao is three to four hours away from Zaragoza. Pamplona is situated to the northwest, with the A12 and A68 motorways leading to Zaragoza.
What to see
Zaragoza boasts plenty of worthwhile and various attractions for all ages, from impressive churches and palaces to exciting amusement parks providing beautiful gardens and white-knuckle rides.
Zaragoza retains elements of its Roman history featuring the Roman baths and part of the amazing city walls, while a number of outstanding museums display artefacts from throughout the ages.
Day trips
Southeast and northwest from Zaragoza, the Ebro Valley stretches for a long distance and there are many picturesque villages and towns situated along the river. Additionally, Pamplona is a one-hour drive to the northwest, while to the east Barcelona is just a three-hour drive away.
Activities and leisure
Zaragoza boasts a fine selection of restaurants and cafs, music pubs and theatres. There are boutiques and shops in the centre of the city and its suburbs. The ubiquitous tapas bars are as numerous as in any main town in Spain. Together with a number of excellent restaurants, they provide a great choice of dining options. Zaragozas nightlife is vibrant mainly due to the many students living in the city and the number of famous theatres.
Safety issues
Pickpockets and road hazards are the main health and safety risks and while most travellers will never experience any trouble, thefts and accidents do occur. Going on holiday without travel insurance is obviously not wise as any number of eventualities can cause you to have an accident or become the victim of a pickpocket or bag snatcher. It is highly recommended that you cover yourself and your family and take out travel insurance.
