Be Safe In Zaragoza
Pickpockets and road accidents are the biggest health and safety concern while visiting Zaragoza and while most tourists will never have a problem, accidents and thefts do happen.
Safety
Zaragoza is a fairly safe city, but as with any city of a sizeable proportions and populace, it suffers from the scourge of pickpockets and bag snatchers. Visitors should always remain vigilant, particularly near famous tourist attractions and at the bus and train stations. Bag snatchers typically operate from scooters and are proficient at slicing and swiping your valuables in a split second. Always wear handbags and cameras with straps across the body; dont carry around large sums of money and unnecessary credit cards; and be aware of those around you.
It is also a good idea to keep cars parked in your hotel car park if possible. If you must park on the street, make sure any valuables are not left in the vehicle and choose to park in a busy street rather than a dark side street.
Health
There are no severe diseases to be aware of when visiting Spain, other than certain STDs. Visitors can drink tap water without ill effect, although sticking to bottled water may give peace of mind. It gets very hot in Zaragoza in July and August, and those from more northern European climes should be mindful of the power of the sun, even though there are no beaches here. Should you become ill, Zaragoza has several top quality hospitals and clinics as well as a collection of pharmacies in the city centre.
Travel insurance
Travelling without travel insurance is not wise as any number of eventualities can cause you to have an accident or become the victim of a bag snatcher or pickpocket. In addition, if you plan on hiring a car, travel insurance with accident cover is a very good idea, as some of the country roads surrounding Zaragoza can be dangerous and local drivers are known to drive somewhat erratically.
Visitors to Zaragoza from elsewhere in the EU can receive free medical healthcare in Spain, although visitors from outside Europe and the EU should make sure their travel insurance package covers them for medical eventualities. A comprehensive travel insurance package to cover yourself and your family can be had for a good price nowadays.
