Zaragoza Entertainment
Zaragoza has a great selection of cafs and restaurants, theatres and music bars. You will find shops and boutiques in the city centre and further out towards the suburbs. The ubiquitous tapas joints are as common as in any major Spanish town and together with a collection of quality restaurants, they provide many dining options. The nightlife scene in Zaragoza is also healthy, owing mainly to the student population and renowned theatres, whilst shopping options are also plentiful.
Eating out
Restaurants of every description are available in Zaragoza, with large collections of affordable eateries as well as the numerous fine culinary establishments. Terraced cafs and full-service restaurants generally offer a good choice of local, national and international dishes. Restaurants can be found throughout Zaragoza, especially in the heart of the city and within the atmospheric historic district, which is located close to hotels, shops and nightlife. There are also many restaurants farther to the south, near the university.
Local cuisine
Zaragoza has a large selection of tapas bars that offer a fine selection of lunchtime and evening snacks along with a typical Spanish ambience. The most common tapas contain local cheeses, stuffed olives, or fish and seafood, and are generally served with local wines. Many restaurants also serve popular local dishes including the likes of paella (a rice dish) and tortillas (omelettes) as well as kebabs (pinchos morunos), papas arrugadas con mojo (wrinkled potatoes) and meat and vegetable stews.
Theatre and music
All musical styles can be appreciated in Zaragoza, owing to the quality collection of theatres and the large student population. Zaragoza has a number of theatres and offers a selection of quality arts performances at the Teatro Principal. The Teatro Principal is Zaragozas main theatre and is located in the heart of the city, while the Teatro del Mercado usually shows modern Spanish plays. The Auditorium offers classical music and boasts the Sala Mozart, with its perfect acoustics, while the Sala Morrisey and Concierto Sentido host modern sounds, such as pop and rock concerts. Jazz can be enjoyed at El Cantor de Jazz; salsa at the Caf Hispano and every type of drinking option is available in El Tubo, the old quarter.
Shopping
Zaragoza offers plenty of shopping options and there are several popular pedestrianised streets in which you can browse and shop in peace. Most city centre streets have a range of fashionable boutiques, gift shops and local stores that are often situated in historic buildings. The thoroughfare stretching from the Residencial Paraiso area of Sagasta to the Plaza de Espana square is the best option.
