Things to do in Torremolinos
The primary attraction in Torremolinos is its exquisite beachfront, with its fine white sand. The popular seaside resort comprised of the Bajondillo and Playamar beach areas is the engine of growth for the resort, although the old fishing village, La Carihuela, from which Torremolinos finds its roots, is still a vital part of the town.
The main city centre is also home to a well-known pedestrian thoroughfare that is lined with shopping opportunities as well as cafs and bars. Besides the other nearby attractions in the wider Costa del Sol area, Torremolinos also has the regions largest water park.
Paseo Maritimo
The seafront promenade is a wonderful long walkway that stretches from the Playamar Beach area to La Carihuela and on to the marina, and it is noted for its beach bars. Locally known as chiringuitos, the bars serve food and drinks around the clock.
Camino de la Playa
Descending from the town to the beach, this white marble footpath commands magnificent views of Torremolinos from the immediate beauty of its shrubbery-lined walkway. The Camino de la Playa consists of 130 stairs, although a lift is available that will take passengers most of the way up.
La Carihuela
For a stark contrast to the wild parties of the beachfront bars, walk west along the Paseo Maritimo to the old fishing village of La Carihuela for a look at the simplicity that constituted much of Torremolinos in days gone by. Here, large hotels and bars give way to quaint old homes and patios, where men are known to play dominoes amid picturesque views of the sea and impressive rock formations.
Calle San Miguel
In the centre of town, the Calle San Miguel is a pedestrian-only thoroughfare that not only offers shopping but a modern look at the market life of the old village. The walkway itself branches off the towns main road, working its way nearly to the beach. During the day, youll see cafs selling fried fish and a variety of drinks and snacks, while at night, youll find a bustling crowd among its truly international bars.
Aqualand Torremolinos
The largest water park in Costa del Sol, Aqualand Torremolinos is also the regions veteran, having opened in 1984, and it is known for annually updating its attractions with ever-exciting rides. The park has numerous new and extreme installations including some of the tallest in the country, and the pool park is home to an 18-hole miniature golf course. The park is located about 10 minutes drive from the city centre.
