Seville Leisure

Having hosted the 7th Athletics World Championships in 1999, Seville has a fairly solid sporting reputation and one which is further consolidated by its two soccer teams Real Betis Balompié and Sevilla FC.

The city has a very close relationship with football and the sport is a significant part of the lives of a large proportion of the city’s residents. Sunday tradition is to take a late lunch before heading down to a bar to catch the afternoon’s big game over a beer or two. Alternatively, hardcore fans can head down to Manuel Ruiz de Lopera to watch Real Betis Balompié play home games, while fans of Sevilla FC head for the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium. Visitors are welcome to attend live games; however, local support is high and getting a ticket may be difficult. Bullfighting also has a big place in Seville’s spectator sport scene and while many tourists abhor it, there are a good number of others who take an interest or are just curious. If you fall into the latter category, then a trip to La Maestranza bullring is a must.

Should you want to play some sport or get a little exercise while you are holidaying in Seville then the city has various options to offer you. Some of its parks lend themselves well to a game of football with friends, while various municipal sports centres offer proper facilities for not only soccer but a wide variety of other sports such as basketball, handball, volleyball, ice hockey, tennis, squash, badminton and ping pong. The Rochelambert Sport Centre, Amate Sport Centre, Hytasa Sport Centre, San Pablo Sport Centre and Mar del Plata Sport Centre are among those venues offering the sports listed above.
