Best known as the home town of the legendary architect, Gaudi, Reus offers some interesting sites. If you are fond of architecture or enjoy modernist buildings then this is a town for you, as many of Spains most famous modernist architects lived in the city at some point in their lives. Reus is also within easy striking distance of the Costa Daurada and the amazing town of Tarragona, which makes it a good base for enjoying the amazing sites that are located nearby.

Priory Church of St Pere

Built in 1512 on the site of an earlier Romanesque church, the priory is the most important building which survived from the old city of Reus. Its graceful Gothic nave complements the other Renaissance features and makes it one of the citys landmarks.

The Bell Tower

This immaculate Gothic bell tower was built in 1520 by the masters Font and Benet Otger. At 60 metres high, its seven storeys are topped by an ornate pinnacled spire. The two upper floors have large windows, allowing for spectacular views of the town and surrounding countryside.

The Reus Modernist Trail

Some of Spains most famous modernist architects stamped their mark on the buildings of Reus. Pere Domenech I Roura, Pere Caselles and Joan Rubio I Bellver all lived in Reus and designed many of its most beautiful structures. There are two walking tours, organised by the Tourism Office, which can help you explore the 24 designated masterpieces. The tour ticket also includes admission to the Salvador Vilaseca Museum and the Art and History Museum. These guided tours are the best way to learn about this unique architectural legacy; however, you can also do a self-guided tour if you wish.

Port Aventura Theme Park

Just a few kilometres from Reus is one of the largest theme parks in Europe, rivaling Paris Disneyland. Port Aventura is a massive park which takes visitors on a journey through several exotic lands from around the world such as Cataluna, Polynesia, China, Mexico and Americas Wild West. Each region features modern rides, restaurants, shops and live entertainment representative of its culture. Its definitely one of the highlights in Catalonia, especially for children.

Costa Daurada

One of the most popular beach destinations in the Mediterranean is just minutes away from Reus. The coast gets its name from the golden colour of its beaches and has many resorts and small fishing villages which you can explore. All kinds of water sports and beach activities can be found around here, and for a night of partying, head over to the tourist friendly town of Salou, where the nightlife is thriving.

Tarragona

Also known as the Balcony of Spain, this gorgeous city has a series of promenades that offer stunning views of the sea and are lined by many modernist buildings. Tarragona also has a great beach from which you can swim and admire the cliff-top Balco del Mediterrani, which divides the city into old and new sections. Theres lots to see and do in this amazing and historical town. The old Jewish quarter is especially interesting, as are the Roman features left behind by their occupation in 200 BC.
