A surprisingly large number of sporting activities are available on the island of Menorca, with the majority aimed at those wanting to participate, as opposed to spectating.

Water sports

The warm climate, combined with the proximity of the island’s popular resorts to the ocean, make water sports a popular activity for both visitors and residents. A long list of water-based activities are available, among which some of the most popular are sailing, parasailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, snorkelling and scuba diving. If all these sound a little too adventurous for you then take a gentle ride at your own leisure on a pedalo or let someone else do the hard work for you on a gondola ride.

Games

Away from the water, there are plenty of other sports to choose from, with favourites including horseback riding, bowling, cricket, tennis and squash. Golf gets a mention of its own, with the island’s Club de Golf Son Parc being a championship quality course set amid some fantastic scenery and surroundings. Keep fit fans will not find an abundance of gyms at their disposal.  However popular hotels such as the Grupotel Mar de Menorca in Ciutadella and the Catalonia Mirador des Port Menorca in Mahon have their own fitness centres, which are free for guests staying at the establishments. Alternatively, you can hire a mountain bike and work up a sweat taking on some of the island’s many trails.

Specialist and obscure sporting activities are also available in Menorca, with venues offering go-karting, clay pigeon shooting and archery.
