Be Safe In Menorca
Menorca is a destination posing very few threats to the health and safety of its visitors. The crime rate is low and the atmosphere is welcoming and entirely free from intimidation, making it the ideal place for families, senior citizens or solitary travellers.
Safety
While violent crime is of little concern for most holidaymakers, there is still a need to maintain wariness with regards to protecting your cash and valuables, as pickpockets are known to operate in various parts of the island. Avoid fraternisation with the gypsy characters who will attempt to sell you goods in the street and make sure your wallet and other items of value are in your front pockets or in a bag which doesn’t permit easy access. Even at the markets, be careful when taking out your money to pay for goods; clever vendors can end up relieving you of considerably more than the price you agreed on.
Maintaining an air of confidence while out and about is one of the best ways of deterring would-be criminals from targeting you and it goes without saying that venturing into unpopulated areas alone and at night is not very sensible.

Health
Immediate risks to health are low and visitors have little more to worry about with regards to getting sick than they might at home. Water is entirely safe to drink, although it may not taste great, so think about buying the cheap bottled mineral water that’s readily available across the island. In the summer season, the sun poses one of the biggest threats to health, with the chances of sunburn being quite high due to over-exposure. Avoiding the midday sun and using a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor is essential if you don’t want to end up looking like a lobster.
Visitors from EU countries can take advantage of reciprocal agreements with Spain and get free medical treatment provided they have the necessary documentation.
