The building that houses the museum, Palau Auamans, is almost four centuries old and is in itself worth visiting to appreciate the Moorish architecture. Placa Major dates back to the 19th century but the square has been converted and now houses several shopping and dining spots. There are also markets, stalls with handicrafts and musicians play on a small stage in the square. There is also a large underground shopping centre underneath the square.

Many of the restaurants at Mallorca have bars and live music making them very popular with locals and tourists. There are several places to choose from offering not only Spanish but also English, German, Italian and Chinese cuisine. There are also more romantic restaurants offering candlelit dinners accompanied by violin music. Although Mallorca is generally safe, tourists are advised to be careful of bag snatching and pick-pocketing. Remain alert to your surroundings and the possible dangers. It is strongly recommended that tourists take out travel insurance to give them a sense of security should things go missing.
