Be Safe In Malaga
The biggest threat when visiting Malaga is the pickpockets in certain tourist areas. Muggings and violent crimes are less common, yet visitors should refrain from wandering along dark alleys and unfamiliar areas at night. Regarding pickpockets, tourists should be on their guard near any popular attractions such as museums, hotel lobbies, restaurants, cash machines and bus and railway stations.
Safety
When sightseeing, keep handbags well strapped across the body and purses and wallets out of back pockets and concealed. Also beware of the scam artists who may try and distract you while their cohort cleans out your pocket and never leave belongings unattended on Malaga’s beaches or in cars.

Health
Dehydration and heatstroke are quite common during the summer in Malaga. Visitors on the beach should make sure they drink adequate amounts of water throughout the day as well as isotonic drinks to replenish the salts. All of Malaga’s beaches are safe to bath and swim at, with mild sea currents and surf. Tap water is potable, although first-time visitors to Spain may be safer sticking to bottled water due to the different minerals that may upset the stomach.
Healthcare is good in Malaga, with several quality hospitals and clinics as well as plenty of pharmacies. There are no tropical diseases to worry about in Malaga or along the Costa del Sol, although citizens from outside the European Union should make sure they have medical coverage on their travel insurance, as only other EU states have reciprocal health agreements with Spain. Those who are on prescription medication should find out the generic name of the drug in case they need to replenish supplies - brand names may be different in Spain.
