Fuerteventura Restaurants

There is a wide variety of food on offer on the island. Many international restaurants cater for the less adventurous, while local restaurants serve up typical Spanish delights. Traditional Canary Island food includes bananas, tomatoes, olives, oranges, fish and pork. Due to the year-round hot climate, Fuerteventura’s cuisine is traditionally fairly simple, but always incredibly tasty. The most common meal is fish, which is usually served with local sauces and spices.

Local cuisine

Traditional dishes include sancocho, a salted fish soup; papas arrugadas, the local potato, which is usually served with mojo, a spicy sauce. Mojo sauce is used within many local dishes. Paella and tortillas are popular Spanish dishes, while tapas can be found in rural towns, but is not very popular in the resorts. Favourite local tapas dishes include goat’s meat, beef stew, potatoes and fish.

Restaurants

Restaurants generally don’t need to be booked in advance, but if you want a prime seat, such as one by a window, you need to arrive early. Most of the restaurants within the city centre serve international cuisine as well as local dishes, so all tastes will be catered for. Mojo sauce will be served alongside bread at the beginning of a meal. Both green and red sauces will be offered however, the red sauce is very spicy, so be careful!

Corralejo is home to some excellent restaurants, most of which open early and close late. You will find a wide range of options and prices, suiting all tastes and budgets. Caleta de Fuste also offers an excellent choice of cuisine including a very popular Chinese restaurant and some excellent seafood establishments. For local cuisine, restaurants outside of the main towns are recommended. These are more authentic and cheaper than local food found inside the resort towns.
