Formentera Transport
Due to the size of the island, no trains or metro networks service Formentera. When you arrive and depart from the airport, taxis are available to carry the luggage, but the most popular mode of transport is the bicycle. These can be hired at a very good price from anywhere on the island. There are cars on the island and it is possible to hire a car, although you will not need to. The pace of life is laid back and the bicycles add to this. Cars are not encouraged. There is a bus service on the island although it can be infrequent.
By bus
Throughout the peak season in the summer, regular buses travel around most parts of the island, but these are less frequent during the winter. The bus service is very cheap, but it does not run much later than 19:00. Timetables are attached to each bus stop, but services do not always follow the schedule.
By taxi
Taxis are only available to take people to and from the port. As cars are not encouraged, taxis are not a popular mode of transport. Taxis can be found at the port or booking in advance by calling: +34 971 322 342.
Tourist services
You will not find any tourist buses on the island, as most people prefer to ride bicycles. Cycling is the best way to tour the island and most tourists will hire a bike for the duration of their stay.
From the airport
The Ibiza Airport bus service departs every half hour from immediately outside the Arrivals Hall. The last bus departs at around 23:00. The journey from the airport to the main bus terminus in Ibiza Town takes around 20 minutes. From the terminus, you will need to find your way to the port to catch the ferry to Formentera. A more convenient alternative to get to the port is to take a taxi from the airport. Taxis can be found outside Arrivals and are relatively cheap. Regular taxis can only hold up to four people. If you are a bigger party, you may need to book a private transfer by calling: +34 971 800 080; or be prepared to take more than one taxi.
