Cordoba Restaurants

Eating out in Cordoba is a fusion of Spanish, Arabic and Jewish cuisine. There is a wide variety of food on offer that will satisfy the hunger of even the most fussy of eaters. Staple foods in Spain include potatoes, rice, eggs, fish and pork.

Traditional dishes include the infamous paella and trendy tapas. Other not so well known dishes, local to Cordoba, include salmorejo, a cold vegetable soup; and cordero a la moruna, an Arabic-style lamb dish, while many other popular dishes include game. The cooking of game is varied, with meats including boar, rabbit, partridge and duck. Traditional desserts have a strong Arabic influence, with favourites including: alfajores, which are made from almonds and honey; pestiños, a sweet that is coated in honey and then fried; and pastel cordobes, a cinnamon flavoured pastry.

Spain is famous throughout the world for its tapas. There are tapas bars throughout Cordoba selling traditional tapas such as potato omlette, cheese, spicy chorizo sausage, garlic prawns and squid. The tapas bars on the coast of Andalucía have largely abandoned traditional culture in favour of new flavours for tourists.

If you would rather eat a large meal, there are numerous restaurants throughout the city. You will find a mix of local Andalucían and international cuisine. The area surrounding the Cathedral Mosque contains many restaurants including some excellent ones. The ‘patio restaurants’ offer many local specialities and are located throughout the city and you will find many tapas bars situated in the Jewish Quarter.
