Travel to Benidorm

Known for its pleasant weather and beautiful beaches, Benidorm is a popular tourist destination located along the Costa Blanca in Spain. The city is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and has a lovely coast stretching for miles, with fine beaches and wonderfully warm water. The nightlife at cosmopolitan Benidorm is vibrant and exciting, as there are many bars, pubs and restaurants in the area. Benidorm is also an excellent shopping area with little stalls lining the beaches as well as the more modern malls and shopping centres in the city.

Transportation to Benidorm

The closest airport to Benidorm, Alicantes international airport, is about 60kms from the resort. Several international airlines from European cities arrive at the airport, making air travel here very convenient. There are shuttle buses, taxis and options to hire a car to get from Alicantes airport to Benidorm. Regular buses also stop at the airport, but although this is cheaper than taking a shuttle bus, the trip takes about 45 minutes longer. There are only four shuttle buses commuting per day from the airport to downtown Benidorm. Another option to get to Benidorm is to take the Ferrocarril de la Generalitat Valenciana train from the small train station near the beach at Alicante.

Several international bus and train companies commute from major European cities to main cities in Spain. Once passengers arrive in Spain, there are a number of ways to get to Benidorm including using Spains bus or train services or flying to Alicante. It is very easy to drive in Spain, as the government has spent large amounts of money on upgrading the roads. The motorways are excellent, but tolls are levied.

What to see

There is plenty to see at Benidorm and it is likely that visitors will need to spend at least four days here to take in all the sights and truly enjoy what Benidorm has to offer. A trip to the Castillo Conde de Alfaz, a medieval castle, is very entertaining. Tours provide a dinner show that involves knights and horses as well as a tour of the castle. Meanwhile, the whole family will enjoy a day at Aqualand Water Park, with its water slides and rides, including the Kamikaze, and swimming pools. There are also a lot of lovely green shady areas in which you can take a walk and dry off. The water park is open from May to October each year.

The Terra Natura Park offers visitors a trip around the world in a day. The park has more than 1,500 animals, lots of shops selling handicrafts and it is also a water park. Other parks at Benidorm include Terra Mitica Park, an ancient history theme park; ans Mundomar Aquatic Park, with its dolphins, sea lions, seals and many other animals.

Daytrips

There are several places of interest to visit just outside of Benidorm including Callose DEn Sarria. Here, visitors can stop at the old church of Saint Joan Baptisita, built in the neo-classical architectural style. The Ethnologic and Archaeological Museum, with its exhibition of ceramics and statues of saints, is also located at Callose DEn Sarria. The Fonts de lAglar is just a short drive away and here visitors can see waterfalls while learning about the hydraulic irrigation that is used in the surrounding areas. There are also several plants and herbs here with medicinal properties that are used to make natural perfumes.

Activities and leisure

Tourists can choose from a wide variety of activities to entertain themselves during their holiday here. Those who like adventure can choose to take a 4WD jeep adventure into the Prades Mountains, driving over rough bumpy terrain and streams. There are also several water sports available including waterskiing, sailing, paragliding and banana boat riding. Cable skiing is available at Levante Beach.

Golfing is another popular tourist activity at Benidorm because of the well-landscaped and challenging courses available. Hiking, walking and camping can all be enjoyed at Benidorm. There are also several amusement parks to visit here including Mundomar Aquatic Park, Terra Mitica Park and many more. Slightly more unusual activities for tourists to enjoy include paint ball, go-karting and quad biking. However, many tourists spend most of their days enjoying the sun and warm seawater at Levante and Poniente beaches.

Safety issues

Being a tourist haven, Benidorm has its fair share of petty criminals, just like any other city. Tourists are reminded to be aware of their surroundings, take precautions with their belongings and generally be sensible and sensitive to things and people around them. In general, Benidorm is a safe city, with friendly locals more than willing to offer advice and help tourists.
