Be Safe in Vilamoura
Trips to Vilamoura are usually trouble free, but there are a few small health and safety issues to consider. As with any trip, a good travel insurance policy is a must.
During the summer months, there are long hours of sunlight and the sun can be fierce at times. It is easy to underestimate this and sunburn and sunstroke are the biggest health risks here. Its a good idea to stay out of the sun between midday and 15.00. It is also important to wear protective sun cream and drink plenty of water.
Although the tap water is drinkable, most visitors tend to stick to bottled water, which is readily available.
Vilamoura is generally a safe place to visit and tourists rarely have any problems here, but as with any popular resort, petty criminals do pose a risk particularly in busy tourist areas in the high season. Visitors should always keep hold of their belongings especially when sightseeing or visiting the beach.
Hiring a car is a popular way to explore the surrounding areas but be aware that some of the smaller roads are not so well maintained, and remember not to leave valuables in your car.
