Most people stay in the resorts or towns when flying to the various islands of the Azores, as opposed to staying near the airports; however, there are options, particularly near Ponta Delgada Airport. As with other accommodation on the islands, the hotels nearest the airports get booked up quickly, so it is recommended that you book in advance.

Ponta Delgada Joao Paulo II Airport is only a couple of miles from the main town of Ponta Delgada on São Miguel and has a number of quality hotels within reach of the airport, town and beaches. The Hotel Azores VIP Executive is one of the best on the island and is situated near the airport, while the Hotel Marina Atlantico is also in the same class. There are several other affordable options in this region including quintas (converted farmhouses) and campsites.

Booking ahead of time at any time of the year is the key to securing a room, and the internet generally offers the fastest and cheapest option nowadays for checking out hotel establishments.
