Warsaw Leisure
The cold temperatures during the winter months deter many residents from taking part in any sports. It's during the summer that people make more of an effort to exercise while enjoying the better weather.
Pole Mokotowskie
Much of the city’s summer fun takes place in Pole Mokotowskie, Warsaw's answer to New York's Central Park. Locals flock to the park to participate in everything from jogging to cycling, walking and rollerblading. The lush, green parks make it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The park also attracts many families that head here for picnics. Food is available at a number of pubs that surround the park.
First Warsaw Golf and Country Club
The First Warsaw Golf and Country Club is a 30 to 40-minute drive from the city, in the suburb of Jablonna. The 18-hole course has putting greens and a driving range with additional services including classes for beginners. There is also a good restaurant there.
Year-round sports
Cycling is very popular in Poland and there is an excellent, picturesque route along the Vistula River. Another attractive path is Warsaw Battles Track in the Praga district. Bicycles can be rented from local shops. Swimming pools can be found throughout the city, especially in the top hotels. Other leisure activities include go-karting, horseback riding, tennis and climbing. Zegrze recreation area has a lake with beautiful surroundings. It is located 30kms from Warsaw and definitely worth a visit.
Winter sports
Skiing and snowboarding is possible year-round in Warsaw, thanks to a specially laid under-surface. The only ski-lift in the city can be found at CSN Szczesliwice, where there is also a white-knuckle ride on the same hill, known as the Alpine Coaster. There are two major ice-skating rinks in the city at the Torwar in ródmiecie and at Tor Stegny in Mokotów. In winter, there's a free ice-skating rink next to the Palace of Culture.
