Bergen is a relatively small, compact city, situated in the space between fjords and seven mountains, and so most of the city’s tourist hotels are well located for visiting the main attractions. There is a reasonable range of accommodation here, but Norway is relatively expensive and is not known for its cheap hotels, so be prepared for quality establishments to come with a price tag to match.
One of the most famous hotels is the Clarion Admiral Hotel, situated on the waterfront with some fantastic views. Many tourists chose to stay in Bryggen, the most attractive area of the city, and there is a Radisson SAS hotel here, with all that you would expect of a large hotel chain. Most of the accommodation in Bryggen tends to be in the higher price range, although Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz is a pleasant and comfortable mid-range hotel in this area. The Strand Hotel, with beautiful views of Bryggen and the nearby fish market, is another popular hotel in the mid-price range and is said to have an excellent buffet breakfast.
Airport hotels
For those who want to be close to the airport, there are a few options here, and these tend to be typical airport hotels; clean and comfortable with good facilities, but set in slightly uninspiring settings. The Rainbow Bergen Airport Hotel is a big hotel with a range of comfortable rooms and is just over a mile from the airport and eight miles from the city.
Quality Hotel Edvard Grieg is a little farther from the airport (three miles), but is of a similar standard, with a swimming pool, sauna and a nightclub. The Scandic Hotel is also located close to the airport (less than two miles away), and is slightly cheaper than some of the other options, but is not of quite the same standard.
