What to see

The Hague has good sightseeing opportunities and many fine museums. The Binnenhof, a 13th century hunting lodge of the counts of Holland, is the heart of Hollands political life and the official seat of government. The Hall of the Knights, at the centre, is well worth seeing on a guided tour. There is a world-famous collection of paintings at The Mauritshuis, housed in a beautiful 17th century palace. The Gemeentemuseum (municipal museum) has extensive collections of modern art, the applied arts, fashion and music.

Daytrips

The Hague has a 10 mile coastline, with two beautiful seaside resorts of Scheveningen and Kijkduin. Scheveningen is reknowned andvisited for its white sands, soft waves and thriving night scene. Kijkduin has some lovely beaches and a main boulevard with shops and restaurants. Also worth travelling to is Delft, a quaint town with canals, windmills and a few cobbled streets. While here, pick up some of the towns famous distinctive blue and white porcelain.

Leisure

There are many good parks around the city which are perfect for either relaxation or a quiet stroll. Families will like the Duinrell Attraction Park, offering bobsleigh tracks, the Waterspin and a rollercoaster. Tikibad, the indoor water world is also popular and provides entertainment with waves and rushing water. Good shopping areas include Oude Molstraat and Denneweg in the city centre, where you will find a concentration of authentic Dutch stores.

Safety issues

The Hague has a relatively low crime rate and you should find the people welcoming and friendly. You still need to take care as you would do when visiting any new place. Pickpockets and bag snatchers are the most common problem here so you should take the normal precautions to keep your valuables safe. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for yourself and your family when visiting The Hague.
