The Hague Leisure

There is something for every sports enthusiast in The Hague, from gentle leisure-time recreation through to competitive sports. You can choose from a relaxing round of golf at one of the many picturesque courses, a jog along the seafront at Scheveningen, or even swimming and watersports at one of the beach resorts. Fitness fans are most likely to find gyms in their hotels.

The Hague is often called Holland’s greenest city. The many leafy lanes and vast parks create a pleasant atmosphere and are ideal for relaxing and walking. The huge Zuider Park was designed in 1908 by urban architect H.P. Berlage and boasts an open-air theatre, walking paths, cycling paths, ponds, a number of playing fields and a miniature steam train track. There is also a landscape garden in which a large number of indigenous Dutch plants and trees grow. This garden consists of two parts with some 1,100 plant species, a garden, moors and hay fields. The children’s farm is open from Tuesdays through to Sundays and in the summer months; many events are organised here, including Parkpop, Europe’s biggest free pop festival.
