Amsterdam Leisure
Holland is well known for its passion for football, but besides football, the Dutch enjoy a lot of other sports such as hockey, skating and cycling. In 1928, Amsterdam hosted the Games of the 9th Olympiad. The Olympic Stadium, built for the occasion, has been completely restored and is now used for cultural and sporting events.
Football
Soccer is without doubt the most popular sport in Holland. Ajax Amsterdam is regularly the best team in the country, and is often among the best in Europe. Ajax plays home matches at a wonderful modern stadium with a retractable roof, the Amsterdam Arena. Visitors are welcome to attend live matches, but home support is strong, so it is recommended that you book tickets online in advance.

Canal fishing
Canal fishing has nothing to do with fish, but you will use a length of line or rope and a hook of some kind. Canal fishing is generally an act of desperation, the desperation that comes with having your bike stolen for the umpteenth time. Many of these stolen bikes end up in one of the canals for some reason or another, and unless they are ‘fished’ out, will remain there in their silent, murky grave. When you come across a fertile spot, throw out your hook and drag it across the bottom. If you are in luck, you may even catch an antique bike on which to tour the city in style.
