Venice Restaurants
Eating out in Venice is no doubt one of the best parts of any holiday here for many visitors. This is largely on account of the Italian flare for creating truly mouth watering food, but also because of the huge selection of eateries to choose from. Whether you want to splash out and go for top of the range haute cuisine or be more careful with your cash and try one of the many small traditional restaurants, you won’t struggle to find a venue in Venice. With the local cuisine offering its own slant on the country’s already fantastic fare, eating out in Venice is a highly satisfying experience.
Local cuisine
Lunch and dinner in Venice, as in much of Italy, follow a fairly strict pattern with regards to the courses and the order in which they are served. Traditionally, a starter will be comprised of hors d'oeuvres or antipasto based on seafood and various meats such as ham, beef and salami. A second course follows, generally comprising of a small pasta, rice or soup dish. The main course is normally a meat or fish dish accompanied by salad (insalata) or vegetables (contoni). Dessert follows and is usually a choice of pudding, fruit or cheese. Finish your meal with coffee and if you’re a local, it’s strictly an espresso at the end of a meal.
Eating out
Pizza is exceedingly popular in Venice and can be found at any of the city’s fine pizzerias, where you can eat in or choose to take a slice away to eat in a location of your choice. Pasta is of course also popular, with many different varieties gracing the menus of the city’s restaurants; although it’s reasonable to say that the traditional spaghetti dish is still a staunch favourite with both locals and visitors.
