Trieste Weather

Trieste is the only city in northeast Italy that benefits from a Mediterranean climate; this is due to its geographical position. The Alps to the north of the city protect it from strong winds, whereas the Mediterranean Sea offers light breezes and a maritime climate.

Summer

Visitors can expect to enjoy long and very hot summers with mild nights. It is ideal weather for spending time outdoors, although there is an occasional Bora wind present, but this is usually a welcome breeze.

Winter

Trieste’s winters are usually milder than everywhere else in northern Italy, as the Alps to the north protect the city from very cold winds.

Spring/autumn
Temperatures in spring are usually mild enough for swimming in the sea and sunbathing at the beach; the same is true in autumn. Swimming can usually be enjoyed until mid-October.
