Pisa Leisure
A variety of sports
Pisa has a large sports stadium, Romeo Anconetani Stadium, which is home to the local football team, Pisa Calcio. With football being a popular pastime among both locals and visitors, many people enjoy watching a match during the football season. Other popular outdoor activities include cycling. The traffic in Pisa is not overwhelming, as it in some other Italian cities, and there are many small piazzas and alleyways to explore, making cycling around the city an ideal way to explore its attractions. Bicycle hire is available for reasonable prices.
The University of Pisa has excellent sporting facilities, with a well-equipped sports centre, with everything from martial arts, swimming, athletics and volleyball on offer.
If you are not looking to participate in any sports, but would like some outdoor exercise and fresh air, head to Palazzo Pfanner, a gorgeous 17th century villa set among magnificent gardens. The interior offers beautiful painted ceilings, chandeliers and frescos that will impress any art lover, while its gardens are characterised by fountains, carefully trimmed hedges and sculptures, making it the perfect place for an afternoon stroll. If you like boating, it is also possible to see the city from a different perspective on a boat trip along the River Arno.
